I am pleased to welcome my daughter Alanna home to Victory Farm Alpacas.  Alanna will be focusing on the alpaca products carried in the Victory Farm Store.   As Product Manager she will bring another view to products carried, product displays and marketing.  A Product Catalogue both in print and electronically via this website is now in place and updated as needed.  Watch for other exciting changes over the next year or so.

Congratulations and thank you to Sandra Fredette of Ashton, Ontario who purchased Victory's Goldie.  Welcome to the wonderful world of alpacas.  Goldie will be staying at Victory Farm Alpacas until the fall.  Sandra and her husband Ian will be busy during the summer building a barn and fences.

Shown at left is Sandra with her first alpaca purchase Goldie.

The realization of a long time dream.  I wish Sandra & Ian well as they embark on a new exciting lifestyle.

December 2007

Product sales were brisk at the MERA Christmas Show Dec. 8 & 9.  Even with the basement location Victory Farm Alpacas apparently had the most sales that weekend.  A big thank you to Marilyn and the other organizers.

As Christmas drew near several last minute shoppers came searching for those wonderful Terry Socks or Thrum Mitts as an ideal gift for a loved one.

November 2007

The Christmas in the Valley Craft Show in Almonte Nov. 2'nd & 3'rd was a huge success for Victory Farm Alpacas.  Many thanks to Nadine Sculland, event organizer, for getting me a table inside and to Calvin Murphy, Recreation Director Mississippi Mills, for allowing alpacas on the grass in front of the Community Centre.  Lots of interest in the alpacas and product sales were good.

Also successful was the inaugural Alpaca Canada Futurity & Select Sale held in Orangeville on November 10'th.  As a member of the organizing steering committee I am delighted to say that this event met our objectives.  By all accounts it was an elite event like no other alpaca event held in Eastern Canada.

Victory Farm Alpacas was well represented at the Futurity by Margarita, Paloma Rose and Aurelius.  Riley also made a guest appearance as Aurelius's companion.  Prize winnings were:

Victory's Paloma Rose

bullet 4'th, $160 -  Yearling Huacaya Female Fawn, out of 8 entries

Victory's Aurelius

bullet  1'st, $600 -  Yearling Huacaya Male Fawn (younger), out of 5 entries
bullet   Reserve Champion Fawn, $500 - over all Yearling Huacaya Fawns

October 2007

Riley arrived at Victory Farm on Saturday October 13'th.  After being in a trailer for several days Riley was anxious to get grazing on the green grass.  Kevin (my son) put him in my newly constructed catch pen while he went to get Aurelius from the barn.  Riley could not wait any longer and he broke out of the catch pen.  What does that say about my carpentry skills?

Riley and Aurelius are enjoying their stay in the "penthouse suite" for a week or two prior to integrating Riley in with the other junior boys.  Riley turned two at the end of September.  He will be starting his breeding career next spring.

September 2007

Where did September go?  I can not believe we are in October already.  As a Middleville Agricultural Society Director I assisted with set up for the annual Middleville Fair starting a week prior to the fair.  Fair day was hectic with the Victory Farm Alpacas display of two alpacas and alpaca products plus fulfilling my duties as Director in charge of the cattle classes.  That's right an alpaca farmer assigned to cattle classes!  Boy, dairy and beef cattle are much bigger than I remember them being.  Many thanks to my son & daughter who manned the farm display while I muddled my way through the cattle judging.

The Alpaca Ontario tent at the IPM & Country Festival drew a steady stream of interested people all 5 days.  Lots of "are they ever cute" and "wow it (fibre) is really soft".  A full Alpaca Ontario membership list handout was given to those who wanted more information.  They were encouraged to look up farms in their area and visit several farms.

The month finished with two days of Fibrefest 2007 in Almonte.  The vendor space provided for Victory Farm Alpacas was great in its' size and location.  Again lots of interest in alpaca products and sales were brisk.  Thank you to the Mississippi Mills Textile Museum for organizing this event and inviting Victory Farm Alpacas to participate.  Visit the museum's website http://www.textilemuseum.mississippimills.com to find out what exhibits are showing.  A trip to the museum is usually quite interesting.

August 2007

Victory's Margarita, Aurelius and Paloma Rose all did well at the Navan Fair Composite Alpaca Show on Friday August 10, 2007.  In spite of not making the podium with their fleece scores they each placed high enough in the halter show (judging conformation) to place third overall.  I am happy with the three third place ribbons.

As of August 4'th Victory Farm Alpacas owns a half share in an exceptional young black future herd sire.  Two year old SSA Sunset Riley will be arriving in late August or early September from Alberta.  He will be primarily residing at Victory Farm.

July 2007

July was a busy month for Victory Farm Alpacas.  Participated in the MERA 10'th birthday celebrations on July 7'th.  Diego, Michael and Aurelius got to go in their first parade through downtown McDonald's Corners.  A great time was had by all.

A week later on July 14 and 15 Victory Farm Alpacas teamed up with Silent Valley Alpaca at Lanark's Art of Being Green Festival.  Friendly Alpacas greeted visitors as they entered the park and a wide variety of products were offered for sale. We enjoyed a constant flow of questions and interest in the alpacas and the alpaca products.

June 2007

On June 2, 2007 Victory Farm Alpacas hosted 34 visitors for Doors Open Ontario.  As usual both the young and the elderly fell in love with the alpacas.  Who can resist the alpaca's gentle, inquisitive personality and those big adorable eyes?  All enjoyed the opportunity to get up close to an alpaca.  Even in some cases have an alpaca eat pellets from their hand.

Thank you to the Township of Lanark Highlands Council and community services co-ordinator Beth Peterkin for their initiative and monetary support in getting Lanark Highlands involved in the Doors Open event.  Being chosen to be one of the Doors Open Lanark Highlands sites was a great honour for Victory Farm Alpacas.

On June 30, 2007 Victory Farm Alpacas set up a display of alpacas and products at the Saturday morning Crystal Palace market in Perth.  The animals drew a lot of attention and product sales were good.

Many thanks to Karen Fox for the invitation.

May 2007

Victory Farm Alpacas was one of the seven alpaca farms at the Merrickville Highland & Town Fair on Saturday May 26, 2007.  An impressive display of alpacas and alpaca products which reflected positively on the Alpaca Industry.  Included an impromptu stroll through downtown Merrickville with 4 alpacas.

Congratulations and thank you to Mark Armer of Maple, Ontario who purchased Victory's Camille.  Welcome to the wonderful world of alpacas.  Camille will be agisted (boarded) at Victory Farm Alpacas for a couple years or more.
